Who Are We

Who are we? America’s identity lies somewhere between 1619 and 2020, when the first slaves arrived handcuffed on Virginia’s shores, and when one of their descendants, George Floyd, died on a Minnesota curb. Race and identity was at the heart of America’s founding and may very well be the catalyst of its undoing.

At The CLU Studio who we are is also grounded in the tensions of race and identity. CLU creates multi-player card & board games designed to surface unconscious bias. Our games reveal the societal implications of identity - what does it truly mean to be different, to be excluded, to not belong? CLU games are especially important today as companies look critically at their culture and the world views of their people.

As a collective of thinkers and makers we share the philosophy that companies can only be as whole as the societies they are a part of. Social justice is corporate responsibility. Our belief in games as a medium for unpacking identity and confronting unconscious bias was inspired by installation/sculpture artist Risa Puno and her exploration of social inequity, The Privilege of Escape.
